Métabief: a skiing destination for foodies
The village of Métabief in the Jura region began its transformation into a ski resort in the 1950s. Beforehand, the villagers had subsisted from livestock farming and dairy production. Even today, Métabief is a prized location for sampling French cheeses such as Comté, Morbier, Mont d’Or and Bleu de Gex during a tour of a local dairy. To get to know more about the resort’s heritage, you can visit the Musée de la Meunerie house in the former Métabief flour mill.
Buildings in the traditional Jura architectural style are now home to various retail outlets, bars and restaurants. Ski rental shops, après-ski shopping boutiques and corner shops cater to all your holiday needs. To round off your ski holiday in Métabief, take a train ride on Le Coni’Fer through snowy landscapes, try your hand at skijoring or ice climbing.
