Olympic resort
Chamrousse played a major role in the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics. Indeed, the resort played host to the Alpine skiing events. The greatest athletes went into battle in the slalom, downhill, and mogul field. No fewer than five French competitors won a medal: Jean-Claude Killy achieved legendary status by winning three gold medals; Marielle Goitschel was top of the podium in the special slalom; and Annie Famose, Isabelle Mir and Guy Perillat won a silver medal each.
As such, Chamrousse enjoys quite a sporty reputation, but the resort offers all kinds of piste for skiers from beginners to pros. Life is beautiful and the living easy in Chamrousse. The resort is welcoming whichever neighbourhood you are in. Take a stroll through the streets in search of a good restaurant or après-ski bar. The water park and spa are a great option to relax a while after a day's skiing.
Slopes
The Chamrousse ski area has 90 km of slopes between 1,400 m and 2,250 m altitude. It is the ideal resort for learning to ski or snowboard. Seasoned skiers can have fun perfecting their technique on the red and black slopes. Freestyle lovers have a snowpark to practise their neatest tricks. Cross-country skiers are also spoiled for choice with 40 km of trails. Many other sporting activities are available in the resort to keep all ages happy: tobogganing, ice-skating and even driving on snow.
