The resort of Cauterêts is 30 minutes away from Lourdes, and marries village charm with city comfort right in the heart of the Pyrenees. The ski area is divided into two zones: one for downhill skiing and the other for Nordic skiing.
A ski and wellness resort
Cauterêts is a resort that exudes charm and its thermal waters are renowned – a jewel in the crown of French cultural heritage. Even today, it is famous for its architecture and buildings, such as the Thermes de César spa and the former train station built out of wood. Many great names have also passed through here: Victor Hugo, George Sand, Sarah Bernardt, Napoléon III and even Chateaubriand.
Ski area
The ski area comprises two separate zones. Fans of downhill skiing should head to Cirque du Lys, just a 12-minute ride on the Lys gondola. As well as exceptional snow coverage, this area offers fabulous panoramic views over iconic summits such as the Vignemale, the Ardiden and the Pic du Midi. If you prefer Nordic skiing, then you can try snowshoeing, tobogganing and cross-country skiing in Pont d’Espagne – a magical place in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park that is also ideal for a gentle introduction to downhill skiing in a natural unspoilt setting amidst plateaus, spectacular summits and fir trees.
